Have been playing around with the basics, going back to simplicity in light.

The  idea is to let the subject do the talking, and try not to overpower them with light. The top portrait was done with a single available light source on camera left.  It seem to do everything I wanted, in a very simple way.

Quite unlike this one, which entails four lights,one which is camera right, large light source, one camera right smaller light source, one in the background with a halo, and one bounced into an umbrella top camera center.

The hard edgy look, one sb900 with snoot pointed down, one down low set to wide-angle, and one set behind to give a mild rim light.. So, three different shots for three different applications you be the judge.
