Twitter what!
September 16, 2008
The things to come! As hurricane Ike hit the coast, and spread its off all toward our County, I got to see technology in action, well all I can say is wow! From the high-tech sophistication at the Command Center in the Sheriff’s office, to the iphone in my hands, I got a chance to try out a new way of doing things, armed with nothing but a phone and a twitter account, as it looked like we were going to be getting a lot evacuated residents, and bad weather from South,Texas.
The idea, keep the county informed as it happened with nothing but iPhone. And this is a large step from yesterday when you spend your days with your hands in the fixer and try to get one photo ready for the next issue. Now within minutes you have a snapshot, and information posted for the world to see .Now even with all of this, it was the people that actually made it work, everybody coming together in a joint effort, some as many as 12 hour shifts, to help place evacuated individuals. From the Newark fire Department, stationed in Newark Baptist Church, which was only one of many set up points, to the Sheriff’s office Command center, I saw people intereact to help each other to help stranded people. The way that we tell the story might change, but it’s still about people working together to help people! Way to come together Wise County. A special thanks to Paul Cunningham for his help keeping us informed throughout the weekend.
