Traveling light……….

October 15, 2011

Recently attended the National Newspaper awards in albequrqe New Mexico with WC Messenger publisher Phil Major and wife Lisa along withAD rep Lisa Davis. The Messenger had won several awards in 2010 and i was lucky enough to be there to witnes the festival!

My personal geust was new friend and traveling model Gina!

No surprise, I always carry a camera everywhere I go. But having your own persnal model brings a whole new meaning to traveling light!

Travel photography has always been a passion of mine which is a very different from the thing that pays the bills which is what makes the news on a day to day basis. A lot of similarities exist such as always being open to the possibility of a shot, looking at all things graphically, situations and especially people! Jay Maisel would say doing your visual push-ups!

Now in a perfect world ten hours from my home base the shot above would have a five foot octagon reflector pumping 1000 watt of light from camera left, Similar on right, but that’s far from traveling lite! So, we make up for lack of separation of the subject from background by changing angle, looking for the perfect natural light, or just catching a great moment, after all carring one camera and lens (traveling super light ) you have to make the most of all in front of you!

So in essence it all comes down to the relationship of you and the world around you, your interpretation to it, What works for you and what does not?
