Well what a fantastic week it’s been in Pendleton Oregon covering the annual rodeo called the round-up. Weather was great, action was great, but what I think the greatest was, is the fact that I got to work with some great people, both in the media relations at the round-up, and the folks at the East Oregonian. One such person was a Photog that works at the EO, EJ Harris. Spent some time with EJ over the course of a week, as there was a lot to cover, most of the time we went separate ways, but occasionally we got a chance to get together and share information and technical knowledge. This guy does great stuff with crooked photos, never been a big fan of crookedness, but he certainly does it well. Another person I spent a lot of time with on feature stories, was another East Oregonian employee named Kathy Aney. All I can say, is this lady knows how to tell a story. Check out her feature on Trevor Brazile “Just another cowboy” and then there was Skip Nichols of course, former editor, coworker, and great friend, who set the whole thing up, and kept everything running smoothly throughout the week in the news room, at the EO.

Did I mention the action was great? Oh yeah, course it doesn’t hurt being up close and personal with one of those little red jackets on, those do not come without a price though, you figure that out when one of the big bulls gets loose, and gets all up in your back pocket, or one of the wild saddle broncs coming right at you wide open, and the nearest cover is the grandstands about 50 or 60 feet away. Did I mention these guys move fast? It was a trade-off that I made gladly, cause it’s not every day that you get to shoot a daylight rodeo with some of the worlds best cowboys, all set in a tradition that’s been going on 99 years, and have total access!
Thanks Pendleton for the Ride!
