The Summer Lull

July 17, 2024

For several years now this particular block of time , June and July has been traditionally slow. When I was in the news industry this was called wild art time, there was no sports since school was out, no board meetings since everyone was generally taking vacations or staycations either was it was slow. we filled the days by riding around looking for wild art, kids in swimming pool, unusual feature stores and check out leads, it also gave time to work on the long feature story that there was never time for.

Now, post news era, it is still the same, these two months are slow due to rodeos mostly being up north and our commercial clients either on vacation or hiding from the Texas heat. So nowadays not having a deadline or having to produce, I spend this time working on the details, whether it be camera equipment, ro-organizining, Hi=speed, low-drag and going through image banks.

This year has been a major whittling on my Favorites folder. I have roughly seven hundred thousand images on file with about 30,000 labeled maybes. this year I have just completed going through that folder and picking out the incredible ones, using new tools in Lightroom, that is on the ones I shot in raw. I haven’t shot jpeg for a long time but I sure regret shooting even one in a non-raw state giving the advancement of AI in LR classic.

Its funny how you look at images differently as you mature as a shooter, c’mon, we have all done it, sometimes I look at older images and say, “what was I thinking”, other times, ” wow, did I really shoot that, where is that guy?

Anyway I am putting together a four part slide show of my very best, this is # 1, I hope you enjoy!
