The Call

October 26, 2010

Just finished my latest piece. This started out as a print series about a man’s home located in Crafton, Texas who had been getting quite a bit of flak from the locals and neighboring communities.

I had been looking for a compelling story to try out all my latest skills in a ever-changing occupation that hasn’t quiet made up its mind how it wants to get its news. As a choice, this would not have been my first, initially.

Due to the cynicism that this occupation breeds, I was very skeptical in the beginning and fought with even doing the story, other than the print version photos for the first couple of weeks. I found out later that my subjects were equally as skeptical in fear of perversion of their beliefs.

As it turns out these guys have a great story, and passion flows in many directions, being a passion enthusiast it would have been a waste to have skipped this one.

A new perspective gained: with thoughts and beliefs as far apart as ours were, I think it actually helped me and hold my interest throughout the story trying to weave all the parts and passions together through an unknowing eye.

As for the new skills, learned a few more on this one as I’m sure I will continue to do, or hope to on each one that I do, but I think the key thing to remember is, it doesn’t really matter what medium you use to tell the story, in the end it’s still all about the subject.
