Texas photography workshop wrap-up

September 28, 2020

As I go back through thousands of images fro twelve students from all over the US, I am elated to see what they have turned in for the book publication for class, ” Rode Hard and Hung up Wet ” The name comes from the number of events and fast pace of the class, Ten events in five days, two rodeos, branding and roping at Nine Bar ranch, pro rodeo cowboy shoot with Clint Cooper, chuckwagon supper and breakfast and cattle dog herding with Jason Terrell.  We wanted the class to be about the Texas experience and give a diverse set of images about the Cowboy way of life.

The synergy of this class was second to none that I have had over the years and everybody had different reasons for coming and what they wanted to take home with them.  I enjoyed getting to know each and every one on a personal basis and being a part of their photographic journey. I think we took as much away from the experience as the students in the way of a fresh view of Texas and all the beauty that surrounds us and the thirst and desire of the class to capture a great image.

As I finish class notes and start laying out the book I get to relive what has been my dream for years, to hold a class of this magnitude and share my philosophy of shooting and the place I have come to love as my home, Wise County, Texas.

This class could not have been possible without the help of several people such as NRS ranch and event center, Camp cookie productions, Jason, Terrell, Scott Fenner, Megan Lantham and a special thanks to my amazing wife and teacher Lisa for putting up with me for the last year and half while putting this together.
