Texas football, summer heat!

August 3, 2010

Oh yeah, football is here again. I guess I should have done a little more training myself this summer, the heat on the first day of two a day workouts was brutal taking photos, I can only imagine what it was like in a helmet!  can’t say that I was looking to forward to football this year, it seems like it gets hotter every year, or maybe it’s just the old kicking in.

As always, after the first day it was on, I am excited and looking forward to the first game.

The best way to describe football in Texas is an excessive new year, it’s almost like the whole state starts over in August. The coaches run up and down the field screaming and hollering with the exuberance of yesteryear, the moms, dads and football fanatics come out, stand in the heat checking out this year’s talent and praying for a state playoff.

For me the game is about the shot, and every year the physical challenge of staying up with these young kids and running the sideline hoping for something different. After 10 years of Friday night lights, something different doesn’t come along that often, but the faces always change, and I try to experience it through their enthusiasm.

One of the greatest lessons in journalism photography is the saying “F8 and be there,” I prefer F4, but I do agree with being their part even if it is 110 in the Shade.
