Street shooting in Bishop Arts
August 1, 2023
Simplicity, My goal during this months photo challenge of @dallasppa
It was a good chance to get to meet and talk to fellow members and take in a new place we haven’t been before. After talking with some of the group and sharing stories we took to the street. The challenge was to use a 50mm lens, I haven’t used this focal length in years being an extremist by nature. My weapon of choice was the Nikon 50 mm 2.8 macro and the Z9.
Street shooting has always been my entertainment when visiting new places, even walking through old places. Simplicity is the key, less choices increases creative options, and lets you stay connected to your subject. I love shooting abstract images, but being a photojournalist for years, my true love is people, connecting with them and hopefully leaving them with a brief positive experience. The most requested thing that our students ask is about how to photograph people, so I feel like everyone craves this feeling.I have found over the years about 90% of the people want to be involved in making the shot or helping you get the shot, but you have to invite them in!
This shoot was so freeing from the everyday hustle and bustle of booking shoots, marketing and producing, with no pressure of outcome or having to produce, it reminded me of our Sunday Morning Sidewalk with people, I think another thing that made the shoot so great was the fact that you were always bumping into fellow photogs of the club, sharing vision, Ideas, and thoughts. Thanks to everyone who participated.
