Sometimes!

October 2, 2008

Sometimes I think the best part of the shot is in the story that goes along with it, whether  it be who you shot it with, or the circumstances surrounding it!  I try not to get too emotionally involved, and  try to remain unbiased in picking the photo, but sometimes it just don’t work, for instance………

this particular shot was done with my son Cody, during my lightning quest about four years ago. As  the lightning started, we went up to the Decatur Courthouse Square  posted our tripod right in the middle of the road and began to shoot time exposures in succession to the tune of about 200. Then the lightning stopped and the rain began,  not having achieved what we wanted to do it yet, we picked up and moved up under the awning. After laying there sprawled out on the concrete sidewalk, listening to the rain, waiting for the lightning to begin again we planned our  attack. Well I guess we looked like a couple of homeless individuals, because after circling the square and about three times the local Decatur policeman pulled up to check us out. I don’t  know why, but he just could not understand why anybody would want to lay out in the rain and take photos. Good memories Cody!

Sometimes the stories are the best part of a photo. Lyndi and Lauryn are both hooked on photography. As a family, we are always thinking of the great next photo. They take Joe Duty’s advice to heart……”Always have your camera!”

Joe –

You always do a wonderful job of capturing the very best in any situation. You make everyone envious of your experience even if they probably wouldn’t want to be there in the first place. This is a fabulous example of your vision and your talent. I think you made the right choice and I know that Cody is a great pupil, helper and inspiration! Keep shooting life!!

This is one of my favs! I love the courthouse and can remember coming home to Decatur as a child and all you could in the distance was the lights of the courthouse. You knew you were getting close to home. (Especially at Christmastime) Love your work and your enthusiasm for your subjects. Saw you shooting this weekend across from DQ. I was with my daughter and she even mentioned the lengths you will go for a picture. (She saw you laying down at the Cross Country Meet in Decatur). Thanks for the good work and keep the photos coming!
