Something old, something new

November 25, 2010

Yes, with the cold comes the warmth of four walls and a wood floor.

As always, I’m still excited by the coming of a different sport in a different season. Basketball has always been my experimental sport, after the money shot. After all your there, comfortable, and in full camera dress already, why not play?

This year’s experiment, repeating flash. This comes from exposure of 1/4 of a second at F56, SB 900 set to repeat mode. The gym was dark enough at minus one-stop to give the background blur, and the repeating flash did a nice job stopping the foreground action, creating a visual of intense motion.

Pretty much the same set up on this one, except sped the shutter up to 1/8 of a second. As always there’s room for improvement, the on camera flash gives kind of a flat, hot look to the foreground subjects, next time off camera remote flashes.  The worst that can happen is a little extra work and a couple of bad frames
