Opening day at the bay

May 28, 2011

School’s over, the pools are opening — ah, summer is finally here. My favorite subject of all: water! There is no duplication of them; every one is the first. This day’s paper assignment was the Runaway Bay pool opening. Let the fun begin.

After the faces, for me always comes the secondary — and for the most part, it’s abstract because I’m looking deeper and narrowing my focus to try to show the detail. The above shot, in addition to having water, has two of my other favorite items to shoot, shadows and physical features of the hands — here we have all three in one.

Water bug doing the backstroke — how lucky can a man get? While I thought it was kind of humorous, I also enjoyed the swirl of lines around him, framing the insect trying to swim the ocean of Runaway Bay.
