Into The Night!
September 3, 2008
I have been drawn to this old tree I spotted a couple of months ago and I’ve had a strange urge to shoot It. Just south of Decatur about 4 miles, there’s a tree upon the hill that has stood the test of time, not much left of It but old black bark.
after Discussing My Idea of Painting This Tree with Light with Tony Jackson at Lunch, We Decide to Take on the Challenge Last Night,
with little if any life left, overlooking an energetic new gas well it still stands as the cars go by. This is the second scene after a number of exposures. I felt fairly confident that we captured what we came for until we turned around as we were leaving.
the good news is we didn’t set the grass on fire with all the flashes going off, bad news tall grass means many ticks. It was a rush. Tony, I really enjoyed the shoot.

Hey Joe, The only thing that could have made these images any better would be,………. is to have a big horned owl in the tree wearing my glasses that I lost while we were doing the shoot!! Thanks for the photo op!!! T J

These are nice, particularly the third photo. Reminds me of some of the old 80’s 4 A.D. record covers.
Tony, you need to start uploading your photos to the Messenger website: http://www.wcmessenger.com/readers/submit.php

There’s an old dilapidated barn off 407 that would photograph very nicely. I’ve always thought that would be a great subject for your next project. Just never said anything about it until now. Love the tree!

I’ve been a big fan of yours since I landed here in Wise County 3 years ago. As a photographer it’s so nice to pick up the paper and be inspired!! That doesn’t happen very often with newspapers. .. you have a wonderful eye and I had to come and tell you I loved this shot!! Glad it was front page!
