Great Start

May 14, 2010

Well off to a great start, rolled in a couple of hours before my first athlete was suppose to compete and the first words I heard of the speaker was a ” rain delay, ” first a little disappointed, but not long, start looking for rain shots.

Ok doesn’t really matter, the best thing about shooting state track meet is doing so with my son Cody Duty. It’s a seven-year tradition that’s all about shooting together and looking for the shot – rain or shine. Cody seems to be happy whether he’s shooting or posing. This is not the first time that I’ve put him in harms way. It probably wasn’t smart to put him in the bleachers when lighting was about to strike. But, he’s been electrocuted, run over by a bull, all in the name of getting a great photo.

Shooting with Cody is kind of like a friendly competition. That is what makes it so much fun, especially when I hear those familiar words “Hey Pops, look what I got.” As he showed me the back of the camera, I knew he’d beaten me this time – and he calls me the old abstract guy.

By the way, the latest news on Cody, he was just chosen as one of the six finalist for the Hearst Intercollegiate Photo Competition, where he is to compete in the Big Apple in New York City. It’s a shoot-out between six finalists nation wide. Check out his recent work here.
