….Doesn’t always need to be stopped, in fact it can really save your creative bacon in harsh light and busy backgrounds. This is actually one of my favorite techniques when shooting racing events, it just seems to bring the image to life in a still kinda way. This particular image was shot with a 650mm lens on a pole @ a 50th of a second.

Then again sometimes the action needs to be stopped to savor the sharpness of every pixel. Initially set up camera on a remote with a 14mm lens. Since it was my first attempt at shooting an object at 125mph corner at six feet, lack of knowledge and a sense of self-preservation, I opted for the dreaded remote. after a few rounds, and failure to get what I needed I 86ed the remote, eye to camera, triggered a flash held by assistant. Adding the flash saved me on this image due to the harsh overhead light. The toughest part of this whole thing was keeping glued to my line as the bike came around on his, nothing like 800 pounds of bumble bee rolling over your head.

These images come from a feature I shot last year at Eagle Canyon Raceway. The story… Randy Joy one of the Wise Rocket boys and Wise County tech guru combined two of his many talents to help the success of the newly built facility, both on and off the track.

I Started riding again after a twenty year break, came across these images while revisiting all of my past m/c photos, it’s amazing how different I would shoot it now after looking through the handle bars again. As much as I want to make my viewers feel what these riders are feeling, for some things there’s no substitute for the experience.
