Epic Moab Vacation part 4 The Stops

July 12, 2023

Lisa used this amazing app to map the trip called road trippers. the cool thing about it is it allows ray and I to log in and add stops along the way!

The thing about shooting vacation photography is most of the time you are not in the place at the best photographic time, you know golden hour, twighlight, sunrise, sunset, so… you do the best with what you get! Our first stop along the way was Cadillac ranch, a Pasture that has a bunch of old cars half buried in the field all covered in graffiti! people from all over the world stop here to spay paint cars. we knew Ray would get a kick out of it, and I had my shot of him in mind.

_The next stop was Albuquerque, all of us being breaking Bad Fans, we had to go by and check out Los Pollos Hermanos. The name had changed but inside was a treasure trove of the way it was!

Good old iPhone 14 for snapshots, it’s just to easy!

Next stop was next day but not really just a stop, more of a hike, Horseshoe Bend

One of our stops was less than a mile from our bunkhouse on Sevier River, we had come in late and had not seen the land, headed out the next morning, I had to stop and get out the drone for a better look!

Belly of the Dragon cave was next, Ray had found it on the way, what a cool little cave, it provided enough movement to clear my move notification on my watch, also provided some cool photo set ups!

Next pullover was truly magical. On our way up to Navajo lake, there is actually running blue water on the side of the road. Young guy and his wife fishing were delighted we took an interest in their quest for dinner. This is Duck Creek, a very peaceful, meditative like grove, with cottonwoods blowing overhead and the water below. I could have stayed here all day, it was an amazing find.

Last stop before hitting the home leg was Santa Fe, NM. One of my favorite places to street shoot, Bonus; Pride Parade going on that Sunday Morning!

Stops are an essential part of road trips!  Don’t be afraid to stop and explore, like life, stops can alter your path all together which would alter your future stops!

I tried shooting something different and amazing in every shot to create something besides just snapshots, didn’t always work but in some cases, was pretty happy with results given my parameters. Stay with me as I explore gear, settings and thought on the vacation shoot and take you to our final stay in Moab.
