Every year I tend to hook up with a team for no particular reason, call it Karma, call it destiny, but for whatever reason the shots just seem to come.

It generally works that way for one of the each fall sports events football, basketball, volleyball,cross country, baseball. This year’s volleyball comes in the form of Boyd girls team. So i’m shooting 2-a-day stuff, went to new high school in boyd, great lighted gym, and this is what I found. 

I felt like I was back in the 60’s, I mean there where so many colors I went into sensory overload. Started pulling together a mental frame of what I wanted, coaches where up for anything as long as it happened in 15 minutes. No soft boxes or umbrellas, what to do? Ok so had a coach hold a flash each, set up for ambient light minus one stop, cut the flashes way down to give me a one plus exposure and let ‘er roll, hoping the girls would fill in the blanks with great faces.

After got the safe posed shot, I started having the ladies do all kind of action stuff, I was down to three minutes, plenty of time to get a candid, and they were having so much fun if the coach had shut it down before I did, they would not have been very happy at all!

Volleyball is one of those things as a shooter, at a high school level that you could do without, but every know and then a team comes along that makes it work!
