Time for another taste!  This year’s Wise County Messenger business wise cover is looking pretty delicious.  Spent most of the morning recently in the studio photographing deliciousness! This little project was the brainstorm of Andrew May (graphic designer) entitled what’s your slice of the pie. He’s a growing boy, he always thinks with his appetite!

All the great cooks of the Messenger was called upon to produce their favorite pie, but we only need one slice of each, oh what to do with all the rest. Well that wasn’t really a problem, because by the end of the two hour shoot, word along with smell had traveled through the whole building.  Needless to say what was for lunch that day! It’s a tough job but somebody has to eat shoot it!

Technically, there’s nothing much harder to light than food. Compounded by the limited amount of color space in newsprint as a medium, it can be  hairpulling. Initially had all the pie set up on white paper and finally decided on Plexiglass lit from the  bottom for better reproduction of newsprint. Main light was a 3 x 3 softbox on camera right,  fill was a 42 inch umbrella from top, and a strip light shot through the back of the tabletop plexiglass.
